KUALA LUMPUR (June 25): The Ministry of Health has ordered the Broga Hill hiking trail in Semenyih, Selangor to close as hikers were found violating the standard operating procedures (SOPs) of the Recovery Movement Control Order.
The decision to close the hiking spot was made under Section 18 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 after photos of long queues of hikers waiting to enter Broga Hill went viral on social media.
Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah (pictured) said the closure will be enforced on Saturday (June 27) until a period which will be announced later.
"The SOPs and new norms often emphasised by the government acts as a defence system for our country against the Covid-19 infections.
"The ministry urges the public not to be negligent or take the SOPs for granted," Dr Noor Hisham said in a statement.
He expressed hope that the public would continue the ministry’s efforts to break the Covid-19 chain in the country.
Malaysia reported four new cases today, bringing the total infections in the country to 8,600.
