SEREMBAN (Dec 4): The Negeri Sembilan government is studying the ways of recovering land given to ministries or agencies that has been effectively been left abandoned.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said there were about 10 plots of Putrajaya-owned land that contained failing projects.
“Some of the promises to build branches and research centres under ministries or agencies in the state were made 25 years ago,” he told reporters but added that the land had been abandoned.
“We approved their request because the state welcomed their move, but it is sad that promises were not kept,” he added but declined to comment on which agencies or ministries had not held their end of the bargain.
“I do not want to embarrass anyone, they know who they are,” he said, adding the locations included Gemas, Jelebu and a 400ha site in Lenggeng.
He added that owners of the sites would be given a timeline of five years to ensure the land was utilised.
“We learn from past mistakes, I believe five years is reasonable so the ministries or agencies will put some effort into starting a project,” he added.
Mohamad said, for example, Universiti Malaya was given a timeline of five years to build its agriculture and biotechnology faculty on a 250-acre site in Gemas.
“If it fails to do as promised, the land will be taken back,” he said. -- The Malaysian Insider
