SHENZHEN (Dec 16): Benoy, the global studio of Architects, Masterplanners, Interior and Graphic Designers, has revealed its design for the future China Resources Land (CRL) Qianhai Centre (pictured) in Shenzhen that forms part of the Qianhai special economic zone.
“We are very excited to be working with CRL on this prestigious commission in Qianhai. Our design has aimed to capture how we want our cities to look, feel and function in the future; bringing a new concept to shape this emerging zone,” said Benoy director Chao Wu today.
The development covers 54,000 sq m (581,251.16 sq ft) and will comprise a four-storey podium inclusive of a basement retail level that connects to five towers that host commercial offices, a five-star international hotel and serviced apartment residences.
Slated for completion in 2018, the project has broken ground and will occupy a gross floor area of 503,000 sq m. It sits in the centre of the Qianhai district, which is expected to attract about US$45 billion (RM194 billion) in future investment.
Benoy has carved two main “spines”, dubbed the “Financial Valley” and the “Green Belt”, through the development to interconnect the environment from the sunken basement levels to the fourth-level roof garden. They will also be complemented by lines of street-facing façades in reference to the district’s corporate nature.
“These open-air spines bring the development to life with their fluid form which is accentuated by landscaping, terraces and an eclectic mix of spaces. The design gives human-scale and creates a recreational experience and personality for the emerging financial zone,” said Chao.
A large, vertically- and horizontally-connected outdoor event space, that will also feature a modern theatre and art gallery nearby, will sit at the intersection of the internal streets, designed with a monocoque steel canopy featuring ethylene tetrafluoroethylene material.
CRL also plans to incorporate public transport and a multi-layered pedestrian-friendly environment as a transit oriented development, with three metro lines (Line 1, Line 5 and the future Line 11) seamlessly integrated within the scheme. The development also aims to target Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, and China Green Building 3-Star certifications.
Benoy was founded in 1947 and has studios all over the globe, with a portfolio encompassing countries such as the UK, Hong Kong, Singapore, China, Spain, Sweden, Czech Republic and the United Arab Emirates.
