Anwar questions Residensi Wilayah housing project developer over missing educational facilities in development plan

KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 6): Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has questioned the developer of the Residensi Aman Lumyan affordable housing project in Bandar Sri Permaisuri, Kuala Lumpur, over the absence of a school in the development plan of the project.

With a gross development value of about RM1 billion, Residensi Aman Lumayan is an affordable high-rise residential project under the Residensi Wilayah housing scheme. It will consist of 3,438 apartment units, housed across three blocks. Each unit will have a built-up of 900 sq ft and priced at RM300,000 each.

The project is developed by Danau Lumayan Sdn Bhd, with Pesona Metro Holdings Bhd (KL:PESONA) serving as the main contractor.

In his speech at the groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday, Anwar said that all large-scale housing developments must include essential facilities and amenities such as schools and kindergartens, within close proximity.

“If there are no schools nearby, one of the blocks must be dedicated to a vertical school with a dedicated lift,” said Anwar, adding that while one block of the project can proceed, others should be on hold until all conditions are fulfilled.

Hence, he has instructed the developer, Mayor of Kuala Lumpur Datuk Seri Maimunah Mohd Sharif, and other responsible parties to meet him next Monday (Aug 11) to discuss and present the project’s updated plans.

“[The meeting] won’t take long, about 10 minutes to tell me where are the school, kindergarten, preschool and health facility block. 

“This is a large-scale project… I want this concept that fulfils the needs of the people to be followed, not just for those that are personally monitored by the prime minister, but for all projects,” said Anwar.
