KUALA LUMPUR (July 3): Malaysia reported 6,658 new Covid-19 cases today (July 3), down from 6,982 the day before, although this was the fifth consecutive day that new infections stayed above the 6,000 mark.
Selangor continued to report the highest daily number of new cases at 3,047, followed by Negeri Sembilan (699), Kuala Lumpur (616) and Johor (414), according to Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a statement today. Other states with three-digit new infections included Sarawak (361) , Melaka (345), Sabah (322), Pahang (200), Kedah (145), Pulau Pinang (142), Labuan (108) and Perak (101).
The latest cases were detected from the screening of 85,071 people nationwide in the last 24 hours, representing a positivity rate of 7.83%.
Active cases climbed to 66,958 as daily recoveries came in lower than the new infections at 5,677. The country's Covid-19 tally climbed to 772,607 versus total recoveries at 700,215, which represented a recovery rate of 90.6%.
Meanwhile, 107 more deaths were reported, raising the tally of fatalities linked to the coronavirus to 5,434, said Noor Hisham. He added that 51 deaths were reported in Selangor, followed by 21 in Kuala Lumpur, 11 in Negeri Sembilan, six in Johor, five each in Kedah and Pahang, four in Melaka, and one each in Sabah, Sarawak, Perak and Labuan.
A total of 892 patients were being treated in intensive care units (ICUs), of whom 443 needed ventilators to breathe.
Nineteen new clusters found
The Ministry of Health (MoH) also reported 19 new Covid-19 clusters today, of which 16 were from the workplace, two from the community and one from a detention centre.
To date, the MoH had identified 2,901 clusters, of which 2,030 had ended, leaving 871 being active.
