Malaysia’s daily Covid-19 vaccination rate slipped to 236,196 doses on July 2

KUALA LUMPUR (July 3): Malaysia administered 236,196 Covid-19 vaccine doses throughout the nation yesterday (July 2), down slightly from the 263,012 shots a day earlier, according to data from the Covid-19 Vaccine Supply Access Guarantee Special Committee (JKJAV).

Of the 236,196 doses given out, 167,059 went to first-dose recipients, while the remaining 69,137 were second doses.

The seven-day moving average of the Covid-19 vaccination rate slipped to 220,546, compared with 225,761 on the day before. The government has set a target to administer 300,000 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine per day in July, and 400,000 shots a day in August.

A total of 8.58 million vaccine doses had been administered so far, with 2.46 million Malaysians fully vaccinated, while 6.12 million had received their first jab, according to JKJAV.

This means at least 7.5% of the population were fully inoculated, while 18.7% got their first dose as of yesterday.

Sarawak continued to report the highest cumulative number of first doses administered at 1.15 million or 40.9% of its population, followed by Kuala Lumpur at 1.09 million or 61.7% and Selangor at 1.03 million or 15.8%.

For second doses, Selangor led with 333,432 shots that covered 5.1% of its population so far, followed by Johor at 258,636 or 6.8%.

The country’s new Covid-19 cases remained above the 6,000 level yesterday, with 6,982 infections and 73 deaths reported, pushing the death tally to 5,327.

Consequently, active cases climbed further to 66,084, while the Covid-19 tally reached 765,949 — of which total recoveries stood at 694,538.

Meanwhile, the number of patients in intensive care units (ICUs) remained at 905, of whom 443 patients were on ventilators.
