SINGAPORE (July 16): Two weeks after it was allowed to partially reopen, Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) (run by Genting Singapore) “axed an unconfirmed number of workers out of its total of 9,373 as at end of last year”, reported The Edge Singapore.

According to other reports, Genting Malaysia last month cut 3,000 jobs, which is about 15% of its staff.

The weekly stated that while parts RWS and other tourism attractions were allowed to resume operations since July 1, there’s a capacity cap of 25% for the casino facilities, which is seen to be “the key income generator”. And “only existing Genting Rewards members and annual levy holders are allowed into the casino floor”.

The Covid-19 pandemic has heavily impacted the tourist segment in Singapore.

"We have made the difficult decision to implement a one-off workforce rationalisation," RWS announced in a statement yesterday.
