PETALING JAYA (April 22): Datuk Azmir Merican has commenced his duties as Sime Darby Property Bhd's new group managing director from today.

With him now leading the company, acting group CEO Datuk Wan Hashimi Albakri will resume his position as chief operating officer - township development. 

Azmir was previously managing director/CEO of UEM Edgenta Bhd.

"He brings with him a wealth of cross-functional experience from his background in corporate advisory and as a senior business leader.

“Azmir has an excellent track record of delivering results, and his expertise includes organisational transformation, business restructuring, operational competence and corporate finance.

“He spearheaded UEM Edgenta Bhd’s ongoing transformation as a technology-driven company in the healthcare support services, property and facility solutions, and infrastructure sectors," Sime Darby Property said in a statement today. 

Meanwhile, the developer has also welcomed on board Ir. Mohd Sohimin Mohd Alayedin as the company’s chief special projects officer. He was formerly Tropicana Corp Bhd executive director.  

Mohd Sohimin has more than 29 years of experience in property development and construction. Besides Tropicana Corp, he had previously held senior positions in various companies including Glenmarie Properties Sdn Bhd, Kumpulan Hartanah Selangor Bhd and Sunway City Bhd.

Also joining the senior management line-up is Izzat Alhadjri who was appointed as the company’s acting head of corporate communications, effective April 1, 2020.

Izzat will oversee the full spectrum of corporate communications including media & public relations, social performance, government relations and the overall stakeholder management. He holds a Bachelor of Laws from King’s College London and a Master of Science in Regulations from London School of Economics & Political Science.

“I am pleased to welcome the new line-up in senior management, who possess in their respective backgrounds, a wealth of experience and are well positioned to steer the company forward in an environment that is beset with great global economic uncertainties," said Sime Darby Property chairman Tan Sri Dr. Zeti Akhtar Aziz in the statement.
