PETALING JAYA (Jan 30): The Langat 2 Water Treatment Plant has increased the water reserve margin by 10% since it began operations this month, the Star reported today.

Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Amirudin Shari said the water reserve margin was as low as 3% in the past.

“We are confident that our margin will increase further. It now shows about 10%,” he said after his visit to the water treatment plant today.

According to the Star, the plant started distributing treated water to Air Selangor beginning Dec 21,2019 in stages.

Contruction on the project began in March 2014. It is currently at 80% completion and producing 325 million litres per day (MLD). It is estimated to be fully completed by 2023 and able to channel about 565MLD of water to about 900,000 residents per day.

“The new treatment plant will help reduce reliance on existing plants. In the past some of the older plants were operating at 100% full capacity," Amirudin said.

The Star also quoted Pengurusan Aset Air Bhd (PAAB) chief executive officer Abdul Hadi Ali saying households in areas such as Hulu Langat, Cheras, Pudu and Semenyih are among those receiving water from the plant.

He also said this plant, by far the largest in South-East Asia, is able to provide 1,130 MLD to residents in the Klang Valley.
