KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 4): Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak claimed at the High Court here today that his signatures in several documents related to 1Malaysia Development Bhd's (1MDB) former subsidiary SRC International Sdn Bhd were forged and manipulated.
The original copies of these documents were, however, not tendered as evidence before High Court judge Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali.
Najib, who is also ex-finance minister, is testifying as the first defence witness in his RM42 million SRC corruption trial. The former premier is facing seven charges involving criminal breach of trust, power abuse and money laundering.
He said the SRC-related documents included three sets of SRC extraordinary general meeting minutes and Minister of Finance (Inc) (MoF Inc) meeting minutes on 1MDB.
Najib said he does not believe that these were the documents he saw or signed on behalf of MoF Inc.
Najib said matters highlighted in some of these documents were related to SRC's operational matters, which he said were the company's directors' responsibility and discretionary matters.
According to Najib, these documents are also related to the amendment of SRC's memorandum and articles of association, which gave Najib control over SRC through SRC chief executive and managing director Nik Faisal Ariff Kamil.
However, Najib denied signing the minutes that approved the amendment. He also questioned the authenticity of these documents.
