JOHOR BAHRU (Feb 26): He started renovating the house of retired teacher Fatimah Abd Hadi, 57, in Kulai after he was first paid but did a disappearing act after more payments were made.

The Star reported that Fatimah employed the contractor in late-2017 to renovate her entire house.

She initially forked out RM12,000 of the RM90,000 total sum agreed upon to start work.

“Everything went okay at first. The contractor did do his job despite some delays. In August last year, the contractor went missing midway through the renovation when it should have been completed at the end of last year,” she told the English daily at the Consumer Claims Tribunal at Menara Ansar here yesterday.

So far, she has paid the contractor RM76,403, said the report.

“After I made the payments, the contractor stopped his work without any notice,” she added.
