KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 11): For those who constantly flout the traffic rules, beware! If Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has its way, it will soon be issuing traffic summonses based on CCTV footage.

According to a report by The Star, Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad has revealed that another 1,000 CCTVs will be installed in various parts of the city next year.

“Instead of stationing enforcement officers round-the-clock in problematic areas, we plan to instal CCTVs.

“It will not only serve as a deterrent to the motorists who commit traffic offences, but also will check on the enforcement officers on duty in the area.

“I cannot tell for sure if it will be enough, but this is an initiative to improve DBKL enforcement and services. There will be a control room to monitor the situation at all times,” he said at a townhall event recently.

With the additional CCTVs, DBKL will have up to 2,000 units eyeing the city.
