PUTRAJAYA (Oct 7): IOI Properties Group Bhd commemorated the topping out of IOI City Mall Phase 2 at IOI Resort City, Putrajaya to mark the completion of the mall’s structural works on Oct 6. IOI Properties appointed China Construction Third Engineering (M) Sdn Bhd (CCTE) as the main contractor for the expansion of IOI City Mall.

The ceremony was attended by IOI Properties chief executive officer Datuk Voon Tin Yow, IOI Properties chief operating officer (property development) Teh Chin Guan, IOI Properties senior general manager (mall operations) Chris Chong and CCTE general manager Bai Jin Song. Also present at the ceremony were the mall’s civil and structural engineering consultant, architectural and engineering consultant, as well as quantity surveyor among other business associates.

“We are here to celebrate a momentous occasion and mark another important milestone in IOI Properties’ journey as an integrated developer. A topping out ceremony is a tradition that celebrates the process of building and completing a project. Therefore, today’s ceremony acknowledges this pinnacle of achievement,” said Voon in a press release today.

Construction on IOI City Mall Phase 2 started in June 2018. Due to the Movement Control Order imposed in mid-March to curb the spread of Covid-19, construction of the mall was temporarily halted until early June this year. Nevertheless, IOI City Mall Phase 2 is on schedule to open by November 2021.

“IOI City Mall Phase 2 will add approximately one million sq ft to the existing 1.5 million sq ft, with its occupancy rate of 96%. The high occupancy rate proves that the mall is a great success. We will be ready to welcome shoppers and visitors to IOI City Mall Phase 2, which is built upon IOI Resort City’s concept of stay, work and play,” said Voon.

IOI City Mall Phase 2 will include an indoor shopping mall and canopy-covered outdoor street retail promenade. Among the notable features are a 40,000 sq ft exhibition hall, a new cinema concept with IMAX hall, a stylish al fresco dining arcade with a Porte-coche`re drop-off zone, new edutainment and entertainment centres for children and adults, a new rooftop sports centre and gymnasium. There will also be approximately 9,000 parking bays.

IOI City Mall is anchored in the heart of IOI Properties’ signature development IOI Resort City, which brings together all the elements of integrated development and sustainable living spread over 788 acres of land in Putrajaya. In planning IOI Resort City, IOI Properties has ensured sustainable design features are incorporated into this thriving development as it strives to create a modern eco city both in form and function.
