Justice Datuk Muhammad Jamil Hussin decided to maintain the dates after Najib's lead counsel Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah confirmed that the dates were still suitable, but inquired whether the court still wanted to deliberate over whether it would hear the case or not as the 1MDB-Tanore trial is not expected to end by then.

The stay was granted by a three-member bench led by Justice Datuk Yaakob Md Sam, with the other two judges being Justices Datuk S Nantha Balan and Datuk M Gunalan.

The trial resumes after it was postponed on Oct 5 last year, after the former Umno president went into self-quarantine following his trip to Sabah where he was busy campaigning to ensure the newly-formed Perikatan Nasional won the state election. The trial was subsequently postponed again because of the conditional movement control order (CMCO).

“This is due to the voluminous notes of proceedings and exhibits which the defence find to be in error and need corrections and verification," Muhammad Shafee said. 

The High Court trial involving Najib will resume from Tuesday (Jan 5) to Thursday (Jan 7).

This is ahead of Najib's appeal, which is scheduled to be heard in the Court of Appeal on Feb 15, 2021 for 14 days.

It was reported that the affidavit, filed by Siti Rahayu Mohd Mumazani, a former special officer to the attorney-general (AG), is linked to PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s civil action against the government.

The KVDT2 contractor had last month applied to the High Court to enter judgment against the Malaysian government and Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong for terminating its contract and owing the firm about RM137 million.

According to news reports, Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim is facing three counts of bribery involving RM5.2 million linked to road projects in Perak and Kedah, and nine counts of money laundering involving nearly RM140 million, while his brother Datuk Abdul Latif Abdul Rahim is charged with abetting him.
