KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 2): Sungai Besar Umno division chief Datuk Seri Jamal Md Yunos said he has instructed his lawyers to file an application at the High Court to intervene in lawyer Dr Syed Iskandar Syed Jaafar Al-Mahdzar’s legal action involving Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah's decision to not accept Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s Cabinet meeting proposal to declare a state of emergency in Malaysia as the nation contends with the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Jamal said yesterday in a statement on Facebook that he decided to intervene in Syed Iskandar's originating summons because the latter’s move involves the Federal Constitution and the King’s decision to not accept Muhyiddin’s Cabinet meeting proposal to declare a state of emergency in the country.
“I have instructed my lawyers to evaluate the matter (Syed Iskandar's originating summons),” Jamal said.
Jamal said any development on his (Jamal’s) application will be announced to the media.
On Friday (Oct 30), news reports, quoting Syed Iskandar’s originating summons, said he had filed the civil suit against the Malaysian Government to challenge the King’s decision to not declare a state of emergency in the nation.
It was reported that Syed Iskandar, who filed the suit at the High Court here via law firm Messrs R Kengadharan & Co, had named the government as the sole defendant.
