KUALA LUMPUR (May 3): Mass Rapid Transit Corp Sdn Bhd on Thursday commenced work to redevelop the Klang Bus Stand into the new underground Pasar Seni MRT station for the Sungai Buloh-Kajang MY Rapid Transit (MRT) line.
MRT Corp director for stakeholders/land Haris Fadzillah Hassan said the redevelopment project would involve the top down method and was expected to be completed in six months.
"We will have a technical briefing with business owners in the area on Monday to assure them there will be no demolition, no acquisition and we will compensate any damage to their business," he told reporters.
The upcoming station will be a key integration point with the Pasar Seni LRT station, which is currently the busiest LRT station in terms of passenger traffic.
The Klang Bus Stand is one of the three government-owned buildings, others being Plaza Warisan and UDA Ocean, which will be redeveloped for the construction of the underground Pasar Seni MRT station.
MRT Corp collaborated with MMC-Gamuda KVMRT Sdn Bhd, a joint venture between MMC Corp Bhd and Gamuda Bhd, to oversee the redevelopment works undertaken by Pembinaan CW Yap Sdn Bhd.
"We will ensure the project delivery partner adheres strictly to the highest level of safety and implements an efficient traffic management plan to minimise traffic disruption to businesses during the construction period," Haris added.
He said during the construction period, lane closures in the area will only be done between midnight and 5am.
With the start of the redevelopment of the three buildings, MRT Corp looks forward to a mutually acceptable solution, with the owners of shophouses in Jalan Sultan, to ensure the successful implementation of the MRT project.
