KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 25): A resident of Sentul, Kuala Lumpur wants the authorities to build a safer pedestrian walkway as well as to monitor two developers whose projects have caused potholes to appear on the roads.

Ridduan Mohamed Teh claims that the potholes in Jalan Bahagia 2 and Jalan 2/48a are caused by the development projects in the area.

"The roads have become worse since the highway extension and LRT projects started two months ago.

"They are now dangerous for pedestrians as well as motorcyclist," he said.

Ridduan said the lack of warning signs was also a cause of concern for the residents.

"There are no lights and warning signs on Jalan Bahagia 2, which is riddled with potholes. Those who live in the area know to avoid the potholes, but what about those who don’t?" he said.

Ridduan said another concern was the temporary pedestrian walkway in Jalan 2/48a.

"The developer has placed plastic road dividers on the road to create a temporary lane that is less than a metre wide. There is work being done next to the barriers and that is not safe as there is no buffer. The width of the lane has to be bigger for the safety of pedestrians," he said.

Ridduan said he would be writing to Kuala Lumpur City Hall to look into the residents' plight.

"The letter will be sent to mayor Datuk Mhd Amin Nordin Abdul Aziz and the relevant departments. We want City Hall to monitor the developers. If they fail to comply (with guidelines), City Hall should issue a stop-work-order," he said. -- The Malaysian Insider
