KUALA LUMPUR: Iskandar Malaysia will be the location of an integrated media production studio facility known as Pinewood Iskandar Malaysia Studios (PIMS) costing RM400 million.

Khazanah Nasional Bhd, via its wholly owned subsidiary Beserah Ventures Sdn Bhd, and Pinewood Shepperton Plc of the United Kingdom have entered into definitive agreements to develop the facility.

The project will be located on 32ha of land in the region, said Khazanah Nasional Bhd's managing director Tan Sri Azman Mokhtar at the launch of the initiative in Iskandar Malaysia here on Dec 16.

The state-of-the-art facility is expected to open in early 2013, he said. PIMS, Azman said, is expected to bring significant economic and social benefits to Iskandar Malaysia and Malaysia as a whole.

“It is projected to contribute about RM1 billion in the next eight years, create 3,000 direct jobs and potentially 5,000 indirect jobs a year from the rising number of foreign films and TV shoots," he said.

Pinewood Studios has been known to host some of the silver screen's best moments, including movies such as James Bond, Batman, Lara Croft and Superman as well as feature films, television dramas, commercials, pop promotions, animation and photo shoots.

Situated west of London, it houses film stages, post production theatres, large digital television studios, an underwater filming stage, and location filming as well as a studio village with a wealth of specialist media and production support companies. -- Bernama
