KUALA LUMPUR: Hotel brand Guoman Hotels, under the Malaysia-based conglomerate, Hong Leong Group, has begun its international growth plan with the opening of Guoman Hotel Shanghai (pictured).
Executive Chairman of Hong Leong Group, Tan Sri Quek Leng Chan witnessed the opening together with the senior management of Hong Leong Group, the heads of GuocoLand China, and Zhou Guoxiong the Party Secretary of Shanghai Putuo District on May 29.
According to a statement released by Guoman Hotels, this is the first of two properties to launch under the brand in Asia. The second venture will be in Beijing.
From its inception in 2004, Guoman has grown to a portfolio of four unique properties: The Royal Horseguards, The Cumberland, The Tower and Charing Cross. It is now recognised as a deluxe collection of inspirational landmark properties in central London.
Following a substantial investment, the launch of the architecturally stunning 442-room Guoman Hotel Shanghai is the first after London.
Speaking of the group’s first international development, Chief Operating Officer, International, Sanjay Nijhawan said: “The opening of Guoman Hotel Shanghai is the crucial first phase in our ongoing strategic growth across Asia in the coming years.”
“We’re very confident in the strength of the group and its focus on a stylish, unique guest experience. We’re positive that the Asian market will respond extremely well to the Guoman offering,” he said.
Located in the bustling business hub of the Putuo district, the hotel forms the centre point of the integrated mixed-use development, Guoson Centre Shanghai Changfeng.
The mixed-use development is the flagship project of GuocoLand China, Hong Leong Group’s property arm in China. Besides the British-style luxury hotel, Guoson Centre also comprises an international mall, Grade A office towers and SOHO towers.
