KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 19): Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak yesterday advised Kampung Baru residents to keep their land as the value will increase due to the many developments the government has planned for Kuala Lumpur’s last remaining Malay enclave.

Najib said the future developments of Kampung Baru would benefit the Malays with poor living standards, such as those living in squatter homes and underdeveloped areas.

“I believe those who have land lots will benefit as the land value will increase.

“Don’t simply sell the land because its value will be much higher with the development concept by the government,” he told Kampung Baru residents in a meet-the-people session.

“I want Malays in Kampung Baru to be seen as a developed community with economic and social status that they can be proud of,” he said.

He said the Kampung Baru developments are to ensure the Malays are not sidelined from the country’s development.

“For other people, we have Petaling Street and Brickfields and we want to see Malay people as a successful community.”

Najib also officiated at the groundbreaking ceremony for Legasi Kampung Baru, a residential project being developed on a 1.16ha plot of land.

The development will feature a 43-storey building with 639 residential units, 30% of which will be made affordable for the people of Kampung Baru.

The project, which is part of the Kampung Baru City Centre plan, is expected to be completed in 2019. — The Malaysian Insider
