KUALA LUMPUR (July 1): The 25 new stations under the Light Rail Transit (LRT) extension project are set to benefit about two million people in the Klang Valley, especially those in the Petaling district said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
Najib said the extension, which goes through populated areas such as Kinrara, Puchong and Subang Jaya, would help push these urban centres to become new economic growth areas, Bernama reported today.
With an improved public transportation system, the traffic snarls in Subang Jaya, Glenmarie, Kinrara and Puchong can be reduced said Najib.
Twenty five new LRT stations started operations yesterday on the Kelana Jaya and Ampang alignment -- among them were Puchong Perdana, Puchong Prima, Ara Damansara, Subang Jaya, USJ 7, Awan Megah and Putra Heights.
"People in these areas finally have access to additional public transportation," he said in his latest blog posting NajibRazak.com, today.
Yesterday, Najib officiated the launch of the Kelana Jaya and Ampang alignments with an integrated station in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya and 15 new stations.
He said the 15 stations were additions to eight that started operations in October last year and March 2016, Bernama reported.
Najib said that with an improved public transportation system, the government hopes there will be a rise in public transportation users from the current 21% to 40% by 2030.
He explained that Putra Heights would is also designed to become an integrated public transport hub with bus, KTM Komuter, Monorail and MRT services.
"I had the opportunity to look at the operations at the stations yesterday and I expect about 300,000 new users to come on board every day," Najib said.
