IPOH (Oct 31): Sunway Healthcare Group officially launched the RM430 million Sunway Medical Centre Ipoh, Perak yesterday, officiated by the Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah and the Raja Permaisuri of Perak Tuanku Zara Salim.
Sunway Medical Centre Ipoh houses Perak's first PET-CT scan and surgical robotic-arm system, offering cutting-edge cancer diagnostic and treatment services, as well as robotic knee replacement surgery, according to statement by Sunway Healthcare.
“With 37 medical specialties and sub-specialties, Sunway Medical Centre Ipoh is equipped with 165 licensed beds, 63 consultation suites, eight operating theatres and 24 critical care units, with an addition of eight paediatric and neonatal critical care bays.
“Apart from a dedicated Cancer and Nuclear Medicine Centre, the hospital is home to six Centres of Excellence, covering Cardiology, Orthopaedic, Neurosciences, Clinical Oncology, Women & Children’s Health (including NICU And Neonatology), and Digestive Health,” stated Sunway Healthcare.
Sunway Healthcare Group president Datuk Lau Beng Long said that Sunway Medical Centre Ipoh benefits from the group’s network of facilities that include a full spectrum of care, from quaternary and tertiary hospitals to day-patient services and step-down care.
"As Sunway Medical Centre Ipoh is part of our Sunway Healthcare Group integrated framework, it is supported by our flagship quaternary hospital, Sunway Medical Centre, located in Sunway City Kuala Lumpur,” said Lau.
He added that, “patients will also be able to access specialists and technologies in subspecialised niche areas should the need arise”.

Sunway Medical Centre Ipoh CEO Choy Wah Wei said: "We are committed to providing quality healthcare to communities in Perak, increasing the accessibility to specialised, personalised care and reducing the need to travel to Penang, Selangor or other states for surgeries and accurate diagnosis.”
“I’m proud to say that our hospital, despite only starting operations in April 2025, has pioneered several procedures in the state.”
“These include being the first hospital in Perak to perform robotic surgery, the Endovascular Thrombectomy for Acute Stroke, and the Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) with Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA),” said Choy.
Supporting the growing demand in medical tourism, Sunway Medical Centre Ipoh will be complemented by senior living suites located directly opposite the hospital, creating a holistic, health-led lifestyle ecosystem.
The hospital is now catering to the increasing demand for quality healthcare in the northern region of Malaysia and will have over 250 beds with provision for further expansion.

Located in the 1,350-acre Sunway City Ipoh, the hospital is set within an integrated township comprising residential, hospitality, education and soon-to-be retail components, and is recognised as a key catalyst in the Eastern Development Corridor of Ipoh.
Sunway Healthcare has plans to expand nationwide, with new tertiary hospitals on the way in Johor, Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan, Penang and Kelantan. In Johor, the healthcare group is also on track to add a medical centre in Sunway City Iskandar Puteri and an ambulatory care centre within Sunway’s integrated development in Bukit Chagar, Johor Bahru.
By 2032, Sunway Healthcare Group’s network of hospitals will have a combined capacity of some 3,400 beds.
