KUALA LUMPUR (April 8): Sunway Hospitality Group has appointed Alex Castaldi (pictured), previously its group chief operating officer, as its new chief executive officer as part of its plans to align the hotel business with other Sunway Group sectors and drive global expansion through organic growth and partnerships.

Castaldi joined Sunway in 2017 as general manager of The Banjaran Hotsprings Retreat.

In a statement on April 7, the group said that Castaldi will also oversee Sunway Travel, which offers a wide range of services including corporate travel management, leisure travel packages, and tailored experiences.

Sunway Hotels and Resorts operates 11 hotels and resorts across Malaysia, Cambodia, and Vietnam, comprising nearly 4,000 guestrooms, suites, and villas.

Its parent Sunway Bhd’s (KL:SUNWAY) shares rose 13 sen or 3.22% to RM4.17 at closing on Tuesday, valuing the group at RM25.95 billion.
