- Deputy Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu said for a PRR to be implemented, state governments must ensure that the proposed sites are suitable and strategic, with all matters related to land ownership settled, whether the land is provided free of charge or at a nominal fee rate.
KUALA LUMPUR (March 11): The Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) remains open to new housing proposals for the Residensi Rakyat Programme (PRR) from the state governments or the private sector.
Deputy Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu (pictured) said for a PRR to be implemented, state governments must ensure that the proposed sites are suitable and strategic, with all matters related to land ownership settled, whether the land is provided free of charge or at a nominal fee rate.
“The approval for these projects [PRR] is subject to government consideration and financial position, taking into account the site assessment report.
“These efforts reflect the Madani government’s commitment to ensuring that the people have access to quality and affordable housing with no one left behind, especially low-income individuals, in the nation’s development,” she said during the winding-up debate on the motion of thanks for the royal address on behalf of KPKT in the Dewan Negara.
She said that KPKT implements various Rumah Mampu Milik (RMM) projects for those in the B40 (Bottom 40% income) and M40 groups, including the People’s Housing Programme (PPR) and PRR.
Meanwhile, Aiman Athirah said the ministry, through the National Landscape Department, has set aside RM500,000 to upgrade Taman Awam Sibu in Sarawak, which is in the design phase, under the Madani Recreational Parks initiative.
She said upgrading would involve the park’s walkways, children’s play equipment, benches and drainage system.
The Dewan Negara sitting continues on Wednesday.
