KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 28): Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and Indah Water Konsortium (IWK) have been asked to inspect the sewage pipe at the location of another sinkhole that occurred near the police beat base on Jalan Masjid India early on Wednesday.

City Mayor Datuk Seri Dr Maimunah Mohd Sharif said that as a safety measure, the area of the sinkhole had been cordoned off using safety tape and a water barrier.

“We will continue working closely with IWK and other agencies to ensure that continuous and comprehensive follow-up actions are taken to prevent similar incidents from occurring.

“The safety and well-being of city dwellers are our priority. DBKL will continue to monitor this situation and take appropriate measures to ensure public safety,” she said in a statement.

Earlier, Bernama reported that another sinkhole was spotted on Jalan Masjid India here, about 50 metres from where the ground suddenly collapsed, swallowing a woman pedestrian last Friday.

The latest incident is said to have occurred at around 2.30am on Wednesday, believed to be due to the heavy rain and storm on Tuesday night.

In last Friday’s incident, a woman tourist, Vijayaletchumy, 48, from Kuppam, Andhra Pradesh, India, fell into an eight-metre-deep hole and disappeared.

The search and rescue operation is still ongoing as of Wednesday.

Dang Wangi Police chief ACP Suliezmy Affendy Sulaiman was also reported as saying that discussions are underway to extend the public road closure, with further updates to be provided later.
