KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 23): Malaysia's Covid-19 cases dropped further to 13,754 on Thursday from 14,990 the day before, marking two consecutive days of declining new infections in the country.

Selangor reported the highest number of new cases at 1,985, followed by Johor (1,913), Sarawak (1,766), Sabah (1,629), Kelantan (1,264), Penang (1,052), Pahang (869), Perak (844), Kedah (783), Terengganu (664), Kuala Lumpur (383), Melaka (292), Negeri Sembilan (175), Perlis (113), Putrajaya (14) and Labuan (eight).

The bulk of new infections — at 13,521 or 98.3% — had no symptoms (Category 1) or only mild symptoms (Category 2), Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement.

There were 233 cases or 1.7% in Category 3 (patients with pneumonia), Category 4 (patients with pneumonia requiring oxygen therapy) and Category 5 (critical patients requiring assisted ventilation).

New recoveries came in at 16,628, outpacing new infections. These raised total recoveries to 1,933,716, representing a recovery rate of 89.7%.

Also reported were 1,107 Covid-19 patients in intensive care units, of whom 613 were on ventilators.

15 new clusters detected

The Health Ministry reported 15 more Covid-19 clusters today, including eight community clusters.

To date, 5,369 clusters have been detected nationwide, of which 4,101 have been declared ended.
