Malaysia’s daily vaccine rate at 232,559 on Sept 18; 78% of Klang Valley folk fully vaccinated

KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 19): Malaysia’s daily Covid-19 vaccination doses administered fell to 232,559 yesterday (Sept 18) from 283,002 the day before, bringing the cumulative number of shots administered to 40.16 million.

Of the total doses administered yesterday, 73,106 individuals received their first shot, while the remaining 159,453 received their second jab, according to the latest update on Twitter today by the country’s Special Committee for Ensuring Access to Covid-19 Vaccine Supply (JKJAV), citing data from the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF).

Meanwhile, a total of 21.94 million people or 67.2% of Malaysia’s population had received at least their first dose as of yesterday, including 18.3 million or 56% who were fully inoculated.

For the Klang Valley, comprising Selangor, Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur, about 7.07 million individuals or 84% of its total population had received at least the first jab as of yesterday.

Among them, 6.54 million people or 77.6% of the Klang Valley’s population were fully inoculated with two doses.

Sabah again recorded the highest daily number of first doses administered yesterday with 35,927 jabs, followed by Johor (7,458), Perak (5,910) and Pulau Pinang (5,512).

As for second doses, Johor topped the list with 35,327 shots, followed by Kuala Lumpur (18,641), Sabah (17,359) and Kedah (16,243).

Malaysia reported 14,954 new Covid-19 cases today, down from 15,549 the day before. This brought total Covid-19 infections in the country to 2.097 million.  

Meanwhile, 324 more deaths were reported, raising the nation’s cumulative Covid-19 linked fatalities to 23,067.
