Covid-19: Malaysia records highest number of daily cases at 3,309; active infections top 30,000

KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 12): Malaysia reported today its highest daily number of newly confirmed Covid-19 infected individuals at 3,309, which brought the nation's total number of Covid-19 cases to 141,533 so far while the cumulative figure of active cases stood at 30,390.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement the country reported today four additional Covid-19-related deaths, which brought the nation's cumulative number of fatalities due to the pandemic to 559 so far.

Out of the 3,309 new cases today, six were imported while 3,303 involved local transmissions, according to him.

"For [the 3,303] local-transmission cases, 2,461 cases involve Malaysians while 842 cases involve non-Malaysians," he said.

According to Dr Noor Hisham, Selangor reported the highest daily number of new cases with 1,007, followed by Johor and Sabah at 442 and 409 respectively.

He said that up to today, Malaysia has 190 Covid-19 patients, who are being treated in intensive care units and out of the 190, a total of 83 require respiratory assistance.

Meanwhile, the four Covid-19-related deaths reported today comprised three men and one woman aged between 52 and 69, according to Dr Noor Hisham.

He said the deceased were all Malaysians.

Out of the four fatalities, three were from Selangor and one from Perak, he said.

Meanwhile, 1,469 individuals across Malaysia were reported today to have recovered from Covid-19, bringing the nation's total number of fully recovered cases to 110,584 so far, according to Dr Noor Hisham.

He said the 110,584 fully recovered persons account for 78.1% of the nation's total number of Covid-19 cases at 141,533 so far.
