KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 5): There is “speculation” that ex-managing director of Boustead Holdings Bhd Datuk Seri Amrin Awaluddin (pictured) “might be heading to UEM Sunrise Bhd to become its MD/CEO”, The Edge Malaysia reported this week.

People familiar with the matter told the weekly that Amrin is “slated to fill the seat after the resignation of Anwar Syahrin Abdul Ajib in October”. Anwar Syahrin is currently the MD of Malakoff Corp Bhd since Dec 1.

Officially, UEM Sunrise said no decision had been made yet.

“UEM Sunrise is conducting a robust and meticulous search for a new MD or CEO after the departure of Anwar Syahrin on Oct 30,” chairman Datuk Noorazman Abd Aziz told The Edge via email.

“For now, no decision has been made. We will release a proper announcement on a timely basis as required by Bursa Malaysia,” he added.

Back on On Nov 6, Boustead announced that Amrin was stepping down as MD on Nov 15 but did not provide a reason for his departure. The position is now filled by Datuk Seri Mohammed Shazalli Ramly since Dec 1.

Amrin, according to the weekly, could also take up the job “to helm Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera”.

theedgemarkets.com reported on Nov 6 that “Amrin might become the new CEO of the armed forces pension fund” after the resignation of Nik Amlizan Mohamed on Sept 30.
