KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 27): The Teratai cluster, which originated from Top Glove Corp Bhd's workers dormitories in Meru, Klang recorded 30 new Covid-19 cases yesterday, lifting the tally of infections in the cluster to 4,093.

According to the Ministry of Health (MOH), about 6,526 people living in the area have been screened so far.

The number of active cases fell to 3,638 from 3,642 on Wednesday, while 455 patients have recovered with no death reported.

Dr Noor Hisham on Wednesday said during a press briefing that the Teratai cluster did not spread the Covid-19 infection to the surrounding community, as infections within the cluster have been confined to Top Glove's workers and their close contacts.

He also revealed that about 11,215 Top Glove workers have been identified by the Ministry for Covid-19 screening.

Top Glove, the world’s largest rubber glove maker, has been ordered to shut down 28 factories in Meru after the outbreak in its workers' dormitories.

Top Glove expects the two-week Enhanced Movement Control Order imposed on its workers dormitories to be extended by a week.

The EMCO was implemented on Nov 17 and was scheduled to end on Nov 30. “Maybe [there will be] one more week,” Top Glove chairman Tan Sri Lim Wee Chai told a virtual press conference on Wednesday.

He estimated that about 3,000 of its employees in Klang have contracted the coronavirus, after about 7,000 workers — both foreign and local — were tested.
