KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 25): A total of 1,511 new confirmed Covid-19 cases have been detected yesterday in the Teratai cluster, which originated from Top Glove Corp Bhd’s worker dormitories in Klang, according to the Ministry of Health (MoH).
Based on MoH’s data, the latest tally of active cases in the Teratai cluster — meaning patients who carry high transmission risks and have to be admitted to hospitals and quarantined — climbed to 3,835 from 2,359 reported on Monday.
To date, some 5,777 individuals in the cluster have been screened, and 4,036 positive cases have been detected so far.
Among the 4,036 cases, 3,846 are migrant workers while the remaining 190 are Malaysians.
Meanwhile, 201 patients related to the cluster have been discharged, and no deaths have been reported so far.
Top Glove confirmed on Monday that it will temporarily shut down 28 factories in Klang, Selangor, following an insurgence of Covid-19 cases among its workers. This came after an announcement made by the Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
This is to allow factory workers to undergo screening and mandatory quarantine in an effort to contain the spread of the virus among Top Glove employees.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the spike of Covid-19 cases in the Klang Valley, especially in Selangor, was due to workplace clusters.
Selangor today recorded 1,623 cases, more than two-thirds of which came from the Teratai cluster. This pushed the state’s total number of Covid-19 infections to 12,578.
