Tambun landslide: Bodies of two guests recovered at resort

IPOH (Nov 10): The two guests of the Banjaran Hot Spring Resort in Tambun, who were feared to have been buried alive have been found dead, reported the New Straits Times today.

The bodies of Ooi Chee Wei, 39 and Lee Tze Jun, 32, were found at 9.55am and 10am, respectively. 

The news daily reported Perak acting police chief Datuk Goh Boon Keng telling the media that the “bodies were found in the Jacuzzi room of the villa”.

“A search and rescue operation was carried out immediately but was temporarily halted as there were still soil movements at the scene. The search resumed at 7am today,” Goh added.

Bernama reported Goh saying that the resort’s staff discovered the landslide at around 1 am and quickly instructed all their clients in the four occupied units to save themselves, but the two victims were trapped.

The two bodies were taken to Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital for post-mortem.

It was reported earlier today that two people were feared to have been buried alive in a landslide which occurred at “a luxury all-villa resort in Tambun” here.

A Perak Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said they received information about the incident involving two victims, a male and female, who were staying at the luxury resort at 1.28am today.

The bodies will be taken to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital here for post-mortems.

Meanwhile, Perak Fire and Rescue Department director Azmi Osman told Bernama a 47-member team was involved in the search and rescue operation to locate the two victims, including the K9 unit from the Klang Valley.

“The 100m landslide and the soil and water movements were probably triggered by the heavy rain over the past few days,” he said.
