KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 4): The Malaysian Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) Managers Association (MRMA) has re-elected Sunway REIT Management Sdn Bhd chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Jeffrey Ng as its chairman in the annual general meeting (AGM) held on Aug 25.

Hektar REIT’s Datuk Hisham Othman and Alpha REIT’s Datuk Stewart Labrooy were also re-elected as vice-chairman and honorary secretary respectively. CapitaLand Malaysia Mall Trust’s (CMMT) Low Peck Chen and Pelaburan Hartanah Nasional Bhd’s Hafidz Atrash Kosai Mohd Zihim were elected as vice-chairman and honorary treasurer respectively.

“As a collective voice of an association, we will continue to work to leverage the MRMA’s platform to proactively engage with various government ministries and agencies as well as Bursa Malaysia and the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) with regard to regulatory topics and other areas to enhance the competitiveness of Malaysian real estate investment trusts (M-REITs) in the region,” said Ng in a press release.

As at Sept 1, 18 M-REITs with a total market capitalisation of RM40 billion were listed under the SC's Guidelines on Listed REITs that were introduced in January 2005. Among the M-REITs were Axis-REIT, IGB REIT, KLCC Stapled Group, Pavilion REIT and Sunway REIT.
