KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 27): Less than 30% of businesses in Ampang Jaya here complying with National Security Council standard operating procedures (SOP) to stem the Covid-19 pandemic, The Star reported today.
Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) revealed that between July 2 and Aug 13, only 404 businesses out of 1,396 “fully complied with the SOP”.
Council president Datuk Abdul Hamid Hussain told the daily that “some business operators only had one or two measures in place, which were insufficient”.
“We urge businesses to observe strict precautionary measures as we are still in the midst of a pandemic and cannot afford to take things lightly,” he said.
“The police issued compounds to those who failed to comply with the Covid-19 SOP, while MPAJ issued compounds for various other offences.
“We also issued show cause letters to two night market operators for failing to adhere to the SOP.
“The operators of the markets in Bandar Baru Ampang and Sri Bayu did not limit the number of visitors, which resulted in overcrowding,” he added.
