KUALA LUMPUR (May 13): Malaysia saw 37 new cases of Covid-19 during the 24-hour period until noon today, including four imported cases.
Two deaths were reported during the period while the number of discharged patients was 58.
The 37 new cases compares with 16 reported yesterday, which is the lowest in two months.
The total number of infections in the country now stands at 6,779, said health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
Sixteen of the new cases comprise Malaysians while the other 21 are foreign nationals, he said in a statement.
Noor Hisham said the 58 recoveries reported today bring the total so far to 5,281, representing 77.9% of overall cases.
He added that the number of active cases with transmission risks decreased further to 1,387.
Sixteen patients are being treated in the intensive care unit, with four needing respiratory assistance.
Dr Noor Hisham said that with the two new deaths, the country’s death toll stands at 111, representing a mortality rate of 1.64%.
The deceased were both men, aged 30 and 90.
One of the two deceased, a 30-year old man, was found dead in Rompin, Pahang.
The results of his Covid-19 sample test were obtained during the autopsy yesterday and he tested positive for Covid-19.
However, the source of infection has not been identified and is still under investigation, said Noor Hisham.
The second death involved a 90-year old man who had high blood pressure and chronic respiratory disease. He was pronounced dead this morning after getting treatment at the Enche’ Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital in Kluang.
