KUALA LUMPUR (May 8): Malaysia reported 68 new Covid-19 cases today, of which 57 involved foreigners, according to the Ministry of Health (MoH).
This brought the total number of Covid-19 infections in the country to 6,535.
In the five days since the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) was enforced by the government, new infections have trended in the double digits.
Out of the 68 new cases, 64 were local transmissions, with three cases detected in Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) areas, said health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in his daily media briefing today.
Meanwhile, the rest were imported cases – three involving those who had returned from the UK, and one involving a Malaysian who had returned from the US.
Malaysia also discharged 88 more patients in the same 24-hour span, which means 4,864 patients in the country have recovered from Covid-19 since the outbreak began in January this year.
This means the recovery rate in the country has risen to 74.43% of the cumulative cases.
Meanwhile, 1,564 patients are receiving treatment, with 18 of them in intensive care units and seven needing respiratory assistance.
No new death was recorded, keeping the death toll at 107.
