KUALA LUMPUR (March 18): Velesto Energy Bhd said today it has undertaken the necessary precautionary and hygiene measures at its Kuala Lumpur office, following news that its chairman Datuk Abdul Rahman Ahmad has been tested positive for COVID-19.
In a statement today, the company clarified that its chairman had not been at its Kuala Lumpur premises, nor met its employees, since Feb 26.
“Velesto is working closely with the health authorities in identifying individuals who may have come into close contact with the chairman. The company will continue to update if there is any change from the present status,” it said.
Velesto further said its offshore operations and onshore support bases will continue to operate as usual amid the March 18-31 Movement Control Order directive, but with extra precautionary measures taken.
The company has also initiated a work-from-home programme for its Kuala Lumpur-based staff from March 17.
“This measure is undertaken to prevent any potential spread of the virus, if any, and to protect its employees and others visiting its premises,” it added.
Shares of Velesto Energy closed half a sen or 4% lower to 12 sen apiece today, giving it a market capitalisation of RM985.87 million.ets, public markets, convenience stores and other essential services.
