PETALING JAYA (Feb 26): Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition made up of PKR, DAP and Amanah has officially endorsed PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (pictured) as their candidate for prime minister, the coalition said in statement.
The decision was made at the coalition’s presidential council meeting last night.
The statement also revealed that interim prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad turned down an invitation to chair the meeting to restore the coalition.
"Following the attempt to form a government through the backdoor, Tun Mahathir resigned as prime minister.
“The decision by Bersatu to quit Pakatan Harapan was followed by Tun Mahathir's decision to quit as the Bersatu chairperson.
"Following this, the presidential council invited Tun Mahathir to chair its meeting to revive the Harapan government.
“But Tun (Mahathir) did not agree to attend the meeting which was held on Feb 25," Anwar said from a statement delivered at the PKR headquarters here today.
“Pakatan Harapan remains committed to the aspirations and mandate from the people to steer this country to a better direction economically, politically and socially. We will not betray this trust,” the coalition said.
