JOHOR BAHRU (Sept 29): About 100,000 people in Johor who get water from the Lebam Dam in Kota Tinggi will have to go through scheduled water rationing from Oct 8.

According to a report from The Star today, Johor International Trade, Investment and Utilities Committee chairman Jimmy Puah revealed that the "affected areas include Bandar Penawar, parts of Kota Tinggi, Pengerang, Tanjung Balau and Teluk Ramunia".

"After that we expect scheduled water rationing to hit Mersing soon due to low water levels at the Labung water treatment plant, which will affect about 25,000 people," he added.

The schedule for the water rationing in Mersing, however, has not been fixed.

Meanwhile, Melaka folk are relieved that their state government is not proceeding with plans to implement scheduled water supply.

It was reported by Bernama on Thursday, that the National Water Services Commission (SPAN) had approved Syarikat Air Melaka Bhd 's (SAMB) application to implement scheduled water supply in affected areas to control the use of the remaining raw water beginning Sept 25.

But the Melaka government through SAMB decided to defer implementation of scheduled water supply as the water levels in rivers and treatment plants have increased.
