KUALA LUMPUR (July 9): The SJK (C) Tai Thung (pictured) in Salak South here wants to halt a “possible land acquisition” within the “school’s grounds” to build another secondary school.
The school’s board of directors are also miffed by the “1,393 sq m land in question” being given a new lot number, reported The Star today.
They discovered this development “after receiving a copy of a letter from the Bangsar Pudu Education office to Federal Territories Land and Mines Department”.
“We were surprised that Lot 52945 was changed to Lot 480576.
“We did not receive any notice from the land office and after requesting for the land demarcation map, we found out that the land encompasses parts of a four-storey classroom, the school field and canteen,” Board of Governors chairman, Lee Piang Lin told the daily during a media conference.
Piang Lin explained that the land that could be acquired “was not suitable for a secondary school as it was too small”.
“The classroom block on that land was completed in 2015 and we are strongly against the land acquisition,” he added.
Board members also felt that the presence of another school “would clog up the area” and “contribute to traffic congestion, creating an unconducive environment for students”, reported the daily.
