KUALA LUMPUR (March 28): The High Court today fixed April 19 to hear the stay application filed by Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, the wife of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak (pictured), to suspend her corruption case hearing.

Deputy Public Prosecutors Poh Yih Tinn and Mohd Farizul Hassan Bakri told reporters that High Court Deputy Registrar Raja Shahril Anuar Raja Baniamin has fixed the hearing date for the stay application in his chambers today.

On March 15, High Court Judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah allowed the prosecution's application to transfer Rosmah's corruption case to the High Court.

However, Rosmah then filed an appeal to the Court of Appeal and wants the High Court to suspend her trial pending the outcome of the appeal.

Poh said Rosmah's appeal application had been fixed for mention tomorrow before the Registry Office of the Court of Appeal.

On Nov 15 last year, Rosmah, 67, pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court to two counts of soliciting RM187.5 million and receiving RM1.5 million for projects to provide solar energy to 369 rural schools in Sarawak.

She was charged under Section 16(a)(A) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act (MACC) 2009, and faces imprisonment for up to 20 years and a fine of not less than five times the amount of the gratification or RM10,000, whichever is higher, upon conviction.

Besides this, Rosmah is also facing 17 money laundering charges over some RM7.1 million allegedly transferred into her personal bank account between 2013 and 2017, which the prosecution wants a joint trial with the solar hybrid project case. — theedgemarkets.com
