MELAKA: Do you own a solar-powered electric car? Worried about the lack of charging facilities?

If things go according to plan, up to five solar-powered electric vehicle (EV) charging stations will be placed along the North-South Expressway (NSE) by early 2020, according to a report by The Star.

PLUS Malaysia Bhd managing director Datuk Azman Ismail told the English daily that talks are still on going about installing the solar-powered EV charging stations at the Pagoh (southbound), Tapah (southbound), Dengkil (southbound), Gunung Semanggol (northbound) and Seremban (northbound) rest stops.

Azman also revealed that there are currently 249 charging stations around the country, with the majority of them (some 150) being placed in the Klang Valley.

“Most of these charging stations are mainly grid and electric-based and can be found at major petrol stations, shopping malls and hotels,” he said at an event near here recently.

The report also stated that the availability of EV chargers along the NSE would make it easier for EV and PHEV owners to travel long distances or outstation.

EV users need between 60 and 90 minutes to fully charge their vehicles which could run for about up to 490km.
