Contractor-caused cracked houses and road damage to be rectified

KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 16): Twelve houses and a main road which were damaged by construction work for the installation of water pipes as part of works for the Langat 2 water treatment plant and distribution facility (LRAL2), will be repaired next month.

Located in Bandar Mahkota Cheras, The Star reports that the affected road is Persiaran Mahkota Cheras 1 in Cheras. The 12 houses experienced cracks, and the damage is attributed to the construction works on the project, specifically the installation of main water pipes from the Bukit Enggang balancing reservoir to Sungai Besi Expressway.

“We have been getting complaints from residents about the terrible road condition, which is uneven and filled with potholes.

“The problem is made worse by heavy lorries using the road to get to a quarry located in the area,” Kajang assemblyman Hee Loy Sian was quoted as saying.

Following a discussion with the project contractor, the road is slated to be repaired and resurfaced by the end of December, in time for the new school term. Repairs will include the cracks in the houses.

“It is the contractor’s responsibility to repair damage to houses and roads affected by the project. They have acknowledged their responsibility,” Hee said. 

Kajang Municipal councillor Lim Kim Eng was quoted as saying that five housing areas and one school were affected by the damaged road, and approximately 3,000 vehicles uses the affected stretch daily.

“Residents complained about the issue for almost three years since the project started in early 2016.

“There is also traffic congestion along the stretch in front of the school, as the two-lane road has been reduced to one-lane on each side,” said Lim.
