KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 23): New parking operators and building owners using the Touch ‘n Go (TnG) system for parking payment no longer impose the surcharge fee, said a report by The Star today.
“We have been promoting and expanding the no-surcharge and cashless model to provide convenient and effective parking solutions for motorists,” Touch ‘n Go Sdn Bhd told the English daily.
“To date, there are 45 parking sites that use a fully cashless system without surcharge in the Klang Valley.
“In addition, there are about 120 parking sites that use mixed mode payment (cash and cashless) with zero surcharge for TnG usage.”
The spokesman also explained that parking sites “that still impose surcharge fees are from legacy contracts and TnG will endeavour to convince its business partners to convert to the no-surcharge model once the contracts are up for renewal”.
According to the report, increasingly more parking operators and building owners are opting for the cashless system, “particularly after electronic toll collection was implemented in August last year”.
“Using a cashless system such as TnG benefits both motorists and parking operators.
“For motorists, it provides convenience and a safe payment method.
“For parking operators, it increases efficiency to streamline their operations, saves time, is cost-effective and reduces risk of leakages,” the spokesperson told The Star.
As for those planning to fully adopt the TnG, the spokesperson told the daily that there is a checklist to go through.
“This includes giving sufficient notice to building tenants and visitors, offering free TnG cards, and ensuring there are TnG reload facilities within the parking space or building.
“Once the system is running, any problems has to be resolved by the operator. We only come in if there are problems with the TnG card.”
