KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 22): Minister in Prime Minister's Department (Unity) Senator P Waytha Moorthy (pictured) said he will propose to the Cabinet that 10% of government contracts be reserved for Indians, reported the Malay Mail today.

It was reported that he was responding to the suggestion from Padang Serai lawmaker M Karupaiya about raising the socio economic level of Indians in the B40 segment.

“I will take into consideration your suggestion that 10% of government contracts will be given to help uplift the Indian community's socio-economic standing and raise this issue to the Cabinet when we meet,” Waytha said during Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat today, reported the English daily.

Waytha also said that he wants six “core focus targets on the development” for Indians in the country.

They are Tamil schools and preschools; realising children/teenagers' potential; increase social participation and issues on places of worship; improving lives and wealth through building their career and entrepreneurship; community delivery and special projects; and equity injections, reported the Malay Mail.
