PETALING JAYA (Oct 17): The angst experienced when looking for parking spaces in the urban centres of Selangor is well documented.
The search for a temporary resting place for your vehicle is also made worse by the need to find the proper parking coupons used by the different local authorities in the state.
It is with this in mind that the Smart Selangor Parking App (SSPA) system was introduced.
The Star daily has reported that SSPA “is not only a hit with motorists but also helps conserve the environment by reducing the use of paper and ink to print parking coupons and tickets”.
Selangor Local Government committee chairman Ng Sze Han told the daily that since the system was introduced in July, more than 54,000kg of paper had been saved.
He also added that the reduction in the use of paper is in line with the state government’s green policy.
The SSPA is currently available to motorists in areas under the jurisdiction of the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA), Selayang Municipal Council, (MPS), Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ), Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj), and the Sepang Municipal Council (MPSp), reported The Star.
The app is also being trialed by the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) in parts of Kota Damansara.
It was also reported that more than 70,000 motorists have registered for the SSPA via their mobile devices with more than 100,000 transactions to date.
“It proves that the introduction of the system in five areas in Selangor is becoming popular with motorists in the state,” Ng said.
“The app can be downloaded from mobile devices and all motorists have to do is select the area where their vehicles are parked and make the payment accordingly.
“We expect the app to be implemented in the whole of Selangor by the end of next year due to some technical issues.
“Some of the local authorities are still bound by existing contracts with parking concessionaires,” he explained, reported The Star.
