PETALING JAYA (Oct 16): Vacant and abandoned units of Palma Apartments, Bandar Country Homes, Rawang whose owners have failed to settle their assessment tax for five years or more, may have their property seized by the Selayang Municipal Council (MPS).

The Star reports that MPS deputy president Datuk Juhari Ahmad said based on initial information, at least 250 units were vacant, and the assessment tax had not been paid in over five years.

“MPS’ Valuation and Property Management Department will update its records on these properties. Forfeiture of properties is a lengthy process but it can be done.

“We will assess the status of each apartment unit,” he said adding that the first step was getting delinquent ratepayers details and to issue notice (Form E) to recover the outstanding assessment amount.

From the date of notice, the outstanding amount is to be settled within 15 days.

“It involves several legal procedures which MPS will discuss further on how to proceed with,” he said.

“We must review this problem. Abandoned units cannot be left like this, we want to revitalise the neighbourhood,” he was quoted as saying.

It was previously reported that inspections at the Palma Apartments revealed illegal extensions at ground floor units.
