PETALING JAYA (October 8): Residents of Jinjang Selatan Tambahan (JST) were promised to be relocated, but have yet to receive updates on the matter from Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng.

The Star reports that, having gone to the DAP office at Vista Magna, to hand over a memorandum to him on Friday, the residents were frustrated to find that he was not there.

“In June, we sent a letter to Lim, who then told us to contact his special officer to set an appointment,” JST residents association secretary Selvakumar Krishnan was quoted as saying.

“After three months, we have yet to receive any proposed date from his end for a meeting with residents or the association.”

According to Krishnan, 525 houses had been affected by the long-standing problem of residents’ relocation from JST and they were seeking an answer from the elected representative.

“In 2009, 17 houses were taken down, followed by 30 and then another 107.

“The developer promised to build a housing area for us. The land is already available but it remains empty until now,” he was quoted as saying by the daily, adding that residents also lodged police reports against Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), the developer and the legal firm involved.

“There is a huge space which can sit 1,000 persons in front of our houses. We can arrange everything, including tents, tables and chairs, all we ask for is our MP, Lim, to come and meet us,” he said.

Another resident expressed their dissatisfaction with the relocation arrangements.

“We have lived in JST for more than 50 years and they gave us only 30 days to leave our houses,” she said.

“They chased us out and only compensated us with RM700. I cannot go anywhere with that amount of money.

“I’m not a squatter. I was promised a new place with proper amenities but it is nowhere to be seen. Does Lim want to see us all live on the streets?” she asked.

Residents have requested to meet with Lim before Oct 24, or they would charter a bus to his office in order to see him.
