KUALA LUMPUR (August 25): Singapore has not yet agreed to defer the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High Speed Rail (HSR) project, reported the Straits Times.
The Transport Ministry is quoted in the report contradicting news that the city-state has acceded to Malaysia’s request to postpone the project.
“The HSR bilateral agreement remains in force, unless Singapore and Malaysia mutually agree to vary it,” the ministry is reported to have said.
In an update yesterday, Channel News Asia reported that the transport ministry had confirmed the matter, saying that talks were still ongoing.
“Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Minister for Transport Khaw Boon Wan’s discussion with Malaysia’s Minister of Economic Affairs Mohamed Azmin Ali on Malaysia’s request to defer the HSR project is ongoing.
“The HSR bilateral agreement remains in force, unless Singapore and Malaysia mutually agree to vary it,” the Singapore news network reported the ministry as saying.
