PETALING JAYA (August 6): Home Affairs Ministry secretary-general Datuk Alwi Ibrahim and his delegation were in Lombok to attend a regional meeting, and they were evacuated along with 190 Malaysians following the 6.9 earthquake.
"The Malaysian embassy is facilitating the return of all Malaysians in Lombok," Foreign Affairs Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah said to the NST.
Evacuees have been transported to Jakarta, to return home on AirAsia flights scheduled for today and tomorrow.
Saifuddin said to the NST that Malaysia has offered humanitarian aid to Indonesia, but has not received and official request from its government.
He also said Malaysian non-governmental organisation Global Peace Malaysia is in Lombok to help earthquake victims.
The earthquake has claimed the lives of 91 people, injured thousands and stranded hundreds of foreign tourists.
It comes a week after a 6.4 earthquake rumbled in the area, killing a Malaysian hiker and 16 others.
This earthquake is more powerful, striking at a depth of 10km, according to the US Geological Survey.
